As each year passes High School comes closer and closer and now it is finally here.

I really enjoyed this year. I had all sorts of highlights and achievements.

I really enjoyed blogging this year and I am glad I had the chance to communicate with people around the world. Hopefully I will be able to regularly comment on your blogs.

This year there were a lot of great times that I enjoyed such as our excursion to the observatory, our class item and most recently, presentation evening. I had great fun performing in our class item

‘Macbeth’. Our excursion to the Observatory was one I will never forget. Presentation evening was fantastic all the prefects did a great job of hosting the night.

I have had many achievements this year such as becoming a prefect and winning whole school citizenship.

I hope I will have as much fun in High School as I have had here in Primary School.

Global Warming is the increase of the temperature in the Earth’s near-surface, air and oceans.Over the past 100 years the temperature of the Earth’s surface has risen 0.18°C. The IPPC (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control) summarized that the average global surface temperature will be likely to rise a further 6.4°C.

Although most studies focus on the period up 2100, warming and sea level rise are expected to continue for more than a millennium even if greenhouse gas levels are stabilized. Increasing global temperatures will cause sea levels to rise, and is expected to increase the intensity of the extreme weather events and to change the amount and pattern of precipitation.

Other effects of global warming include changes in farming areas, glacier retreat, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of diseases. There is a ongoing political and public debate worldwide regarding what, if any, action should be taken to reduce or reverse future warming or to adapt to its expected consequences. Most national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol, aim at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In November 2007, the Center for Strategic and International Studies  published a report highlighting the nation security effects of climate change.

These security effects include increased competition for resources between countries, mass migration from the most affected areas, as a consequence of these factors and increased risk of arm conflict even including Nuclear Conflicts. The world primary international agreement on combating Global Warming is the Kyoto Protocol negotiated in 1997.

The Protocol now covers more than 160 countries globally and over 55% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Only the United States, Australia, and Kazakhstan have not ratified the treaty, with
United States historically being the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gas. Fearing ‘serious harm’ to its economy, The United States contends that the Kyoto Protocol is an unfair and ineffective means of addressing global climate change concerns. Still, various state, local, and regional governments within these countries have begun their own initiatives to indicate supports with the Kyoto Protocol on a local basis. If something is not done then global warming will effect everything on the earth, all because of us humans and our everyday lives! Thank You!

After winning last years debating competition, the Belmore South debating team was out of luck in their final debate at Ringrose public school. The topic for the debate was “We learn more from success than failure”, we were the negative.

First Speaker: Yilmaz

Second Speaker: Martin

Third Speaker: Ramiz

Team Advisor: Natalie

Unfortunately, we lost this debate.

I found this year we were n’t focused on our rebuts and they were n’t as many good quality ones. I also found the adjudicators opinions to be very harsh. During my two years of debating I found that you have to work as a team more than I expected!

For the past 5-6 weeks the Allstars have been reading novels and discussing them with other people who are reading the same novel. My group was reading “Danny the Champion of the World”. We finished the book a week but we are still working on our quilts. The book is about Danny and his father embarking on an epic quest to ruin Mr Victor Hazell shooting party. Reading circles is a way of reading a book and discussing what the book is about.Every week we choose a chapter and a date for the next meeting which the whole group read up to. Then we wrote a short summary, open ended questions and interesting words. At a meeting we read our summaries and discussed the part of the book which we read.
Reading Circles was something new for me and I enjoyed the experience.

This story is only part true and some parts may have been changed to suit the game.

480BC

In the second Persian invasion the Spartans sacrificed themselves for the rest of the Greek army. The Spartans fought valiantly but were defeated by their enemies not by strength but by sheer numbers. After the battle the Persians attacked the undefended city of Sparta, when the Persians arrived at
Sparta they found a near deserted city. They killed all in their way and burnt down all their buildings but what they did not know that most of Sparta was underground in an underground city build by King Leonidas 3 years ago because he feared defeat from his enemies.

2487 years later………

Archaeologists have found an entrance to what they think leads to an underground city. It appears to be right under the Ancient city of
Sparta. You are a specially trained archaeologist who has been elected for this dangerous mission of great importance. Your objective is to find out more about this supposed lost city and bring back artefacts to the modern world for everyone to see!

The Tudors were a dynasty that ruled England From 1485 to 1603. The Tudor dynasty consisted of Henry the 7th , Henry the 8th, Edward the 6th, Mary the 1st and Elizabeth the 1st.

During the Tudor reign people in England were very unhygenic and short.

During the Tudor’s rule people thought that the earth was flat and that ships would fall off if they went to far but others speculated otherwise and were proven corret later in the modern era.

One of the most prolific and the longest wars during Tudor times was the war of the Roses. The war was fought by two royal families, The house of Lancaster and The House of York, the war lasted 30 years. The war was called the war of the Roses because The house of Lancaster’s badge was a red rose and the House of York’s badge was a white rose. The last battle took place at Bosworth Field in 1485. Henry defeated Richard and became King of England . He married Elizabeth of York to unite the two sides.

Over the school holidays we had to make a small world and I choose to make a model of Gotlieb Daimler Stadium. We also had to paint a fantasy creature and write about it. At first I thought it was going to be really hard but I eventually I came up with a fantasy creature that suited my small world. Here is my description.

I was just strolling around the local park when I heard a cry for help, I looked around to see who was in trouble but I couldn’t find where the voice was coming from so I continued my daily stroll. When I turned around a corner I saw what looked like a football referee. He looked like the ugliest thing I had ever laid eyes upon with his uneven wax filled sized ears, shiny bald head, bulging eyes and hairy legs. Terrorising innocent and unexpecting residents of the local community. Suddenly there was a puff of smoke and the man had gone so I thought it all to be my imagination.

On the 19th of June the BSPS (Belmore South P.S) debating team won their first debate for 07 against Hampden Park P.S. The Home side’s (BSPS) team for our second debate was………………………

1st speaker: Clement

2nd speaker: Natalie

3rd speaker: Me ( Yilmaz )

Team advisor: Martin

The debate was meant to start at 11:30 but the adjudicator was running late so the debate started at 11:40. The Chairperson was Gloria and the timekeeper was Ramiz and the adjudicator was from Old Guilford P.S ( I forgot his name.) When Clement got up he looked very confident and he was fairly good too, I think that he was only because he didn’t have to do any rebuts. Their 1st speaker was not as good as Clement but he looked like he knew what he was doing I am not sure he did!

Natalie was just fantastic she was confident all the way through not only her speech but through the entire debate she didn’t let anything get in her way. Hampden Parks 2nd speaker was also a girl and she did fairly good too, like Natalie.

When it was my turn to say my speech I wasn’t ready because I hadn’t got any rebutles to use against the negative until Martin finally found a weakness in  their teamline he gave it to me and I got up and walked up to the mark (where we stood in front of the audeince.) When I was in front of the audeince I felt like everyone in the room was looking at me, I would do anything to get out of the room which as every second past grew more and more quiet. So I started my speech, after I finished I hurried back to my seat after, I sat down I looked up to the adjudicator and saw him writing notes and then signaled Gloria to present the 3rd speaker of the negative and the last speaker of the debate.

At the end of the debate the adjudicator told us our mistakes, he told us that both sides very poorly backed up their arguments. When the adjudicator told us that we had won their was a soft wave of “YES’s” amonst the crowd!!!!! We had WON our first debate for 07!! After the crowd left all the debaters, coachs, chairperson, timekeeper came into the computer room which I am in now. We had some juice and biscuts.

Our next debate is against Campsie P.S, the topic is that “Society should listen to children more often”.
